A Guide To Organising Your Relative's Funeral

What You Should Ask Your Funeral Director

When you begin planning a funeral for a loved one, you may be focused on specific details. For example, if the person who passed away did not leave a pre-plan in place, you may be focused on picking the casket and deciding service options. During these planning stages, especially if they are sudden, you may overlook some key points that could help you in the long run. Here are a few of those key points and the things you should ask related to them when you visit your funeral home and funeral director.

Child Care

You may not think of child care when you are planning a loved one's funeral. The truth is that you may have many family and friends that will need some kind of child care. Though your funeral home may not offer direct child care assistance, they may have other options. For example, they may allow you to have a family member there to watch children during the service. They may also offer a room for you to have child care services. This can solve a lot of problems for you, your friends, and your family. It will also allow people to attend the funeral that may not have been able to otherwise due to child care issues.

Dining Area

Many funeral homes have an area that is similar to a coffee break room. You can ask if that same room can be used for a small snack area for cake, cookies or small finger foods for the guests. In some cases, the funeral home may have a small dining area that can be set up like a buffet. This is ideal if you want to have a viewing or reception along with the funeral service itself. This can also give your guests an area to step away and take a moment to themselves or with friends if they need to during the service.

Streaming Services

There will always be family members or friends that will not be able to make it to the funeral. This is especially true if the death was sudden. One way to ensure they can still pay their respects is if the funeral home offers streaming services. The services will be streamed online and anyone with the password or link to the funeral can watch the funeral from anywhere around the world that has internet access.

If you are ready to speak to your funeral home's funeral director, make sure to take a list of questions with you. The list will help you ensure you are asking everything that comes to mind. You can also write down the answers to make sure you can refer them to later. Your funeral director can also offer assistance with aspects of the funeral that you may not be aware of as well.
